MassRobotics, in collaboration with the City of Boston, brought thousands of attendees together during HUBWeek to celebrate all things robotics in the first-ever Robot Block Party. On October 15, the largest dome on City Hall plaza was filled with more than two dozen companies and universities showcasing their research and the latest in robotics with demos and interactive exhibits.

At the entrance to area were four Automated Vehicles from MIT, nuTonomy, Optimus Ride and Delphi, designated the “automated vehicle petting zoo.” This gave the public a chance to see these vehicles close up and speak with engineers and roboticists about their latest technologies. These vehicles can be spotted on the streets of Boston in the Seaport area where they have been testing since January after Mayor Walsh released an executive order to establish a testing program for autonomous vehicles in the City of Boston.

In the dome, examples of demonstrations included logistics and warehousing robots, personal home robots, drones, robotic arms and research projects.

The Nutrons from Northeastern brought their FIRST competition robot that was designed and built earlier this year to shoot balls into a basket – their demonstration was a crowd pleaser!
