As Sail Boston brings the world’s attention to Boston this week, we’re spotlighting some Bluetech startups in the MassRobotics community. 

CRABI Robotics: CRABI Robotics is developing an autonomous marine robot to reduce cargo vessel fuel consumption by 9-17% via underwater hull cleaning, removing fouling such as barnacles and seaweed while underway. This will save the shipping industry $14-26 billion annually and reduce global C02 emissions by more than 80 million tons.  

Kraken Robotics: Kraken Robotics US Inc is a marine technology company engaged in the design, development and marketing of advanced sensors, software and underwater robotics for unmanned maritime vehicles used in military and commercial applications. 

Kairox Systems: Kairox Systems is building hybrid drones that operate seamlessly across both aerial and underwater environments. One modular platform provides defense and commercial operators capabilities that neither aircraft nor underwater vehicles can achieve alone. 

Liftlabs: LiftLabs develops ropeless fishing gear that replaces traditional ropes and buoys with an automated robotic release system. Their device sinks with the trap, then lifts it to the surface when activated, reducing whale entanglement risks and allowing fishing in closed areas. Tested across New England, the Southeastern US, Canada, and Australia, LiftLabs’ solution empowers sustainable fishing while meeting growing regulatory and consumer demands for marine conservation.
