Startup company ATDev develops robotic-based assistive tech that enables physically challenged users to perform everyday tasks, even when no caregiver is present.

Many aspects of daily living, such as eating or picking up objects, are second nature to most of us. But even routine tasks can become challenging for mobility-challenged users, particularly those confined to wheelchairs. Home health care aides may not always be available, complicating matters.

A startup company called ATDev has developed a Robotic Assistive Mobility and Manipulation (RAMMP ) Platform that pairs a power wheelchair with a coordinated robotic arm, on an open software platform. Thanks to the robotic assistance, the chair takes on tasks of reaching and lifting and fetching that would otherwise wait for a caregiver. It enables those requiring assistance to perform many daily tasks on their own.
