SUMMARY:New England Manipulation Symposium (NEMS) 2026
DESCRIPTION:The New England Manipulation Symposium (NEMS) is an annual research symposium in the Northeast focused on robot manipulation research of all kinds\, including mechanics\, mechanisms\, control\, learning\, perception\, and planning. NEMS has two main goals. First\, to provide an opportunity for members of the Northeast robot manipulation research community to meet and talk in person\, share ideas\, and become familiar with each other’s work. Second\, to provide students and early-career researchers a platform from which to present their latest work. NEMS 2026 will be hosted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

SUMMARY:SEGA Robo-Explorers
DESCRIPTION:Nurturing minds is recruiting 5+ volunteers to join our SEGA Robo-Explorers Program inaugural launch in 2026! This is your chance to support SEGA Students as they gain hands-on experience in robotics\, coding\, and STEM problem-solving\, while being part of an exciting new chapter at SEGA Girls’ School. If you are adaptable\, curious\, and ready to embrace a fun\, hands-on teaching experience\, we want you on our team! \nVolunteers will work with students ages 14 and older\, guiding them through robotics projects that build engineering\, coding\, and teamwork skills. SEGA students are bright\, motivated\, and eager to learn\, but often have limited exposure to hands-on robotics experiences. You will guide them to design\, build\, and program their own robotics projects\, encouraging creativity\, problem-solving\, and confidence along the way. \nVolunteers should have experience in robotics or coding. You will work in a small\, supportive team of volunteers\, rotating through student groups\, and collaborating closely with SEGA staff and program leaders. \nBeyond the classroom\, the program offers opportunities to immerse yourself in Tanzanian culture\, participate in school events\, and explore the local area\, including the chance to see some of Africa’s world-renowned wildlife on a 2-day safari!

SUMMARY:ISO/IEC TS 22440: Inside the Standard – Certifying AI for Safety-Critical Systems
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have the potential to become core components in safety-critical systems. However\, traditional functional safety standards\, like IEC 61508\, are not currently designed to address the non-deterministic\, adaptive\, and data-driven nature of AI. \nThis 45-minute webinar provides a high-level introduction to ISO/IEC TS 22440\, along with updates since the previous webinar last June. It explores how this technical specification builds on existing safety standards and supports the safe integration of AI/ML into systems where human safety\, critical operations\, or compliance are essential. \nWhy It Matters\nISO/IEC TS 22440 will become the first international standard developed specifically to guide the functional safety of AI-based systems for industrial applications. Without a defined safety framework\, AI systems\, despite their potential\, face serious hurdles in acceptance\, certification\, and deployment in regulated industries. ISO/IEC TS 22440 provides the methodology to analyze\, assess\, and mitigate AI-related risks\, enabling the development of: \n• AI-based behavioral decision-making in robotics\n• AI-enabled identification and classification of objects\n• Predictive diagnostics in industrial maintenance\n• Machine learning models used in safety monitoring or anomaly detection \nThe upcoming standard equips organizations with the tools to confidently deploy AI in safety-critical decision-making\, enabling responsible innovation while ensuring compliance and trust. \nWhat You’ll Learn\nThis session is designed for engineers\, project managers\, safety professionals\, and returning attendees who want to understand how this technical specification supplements established safety frameworks\, where it adds new value\, and what updates are shaping its future. This webinar includes: \n• A high-level overview of ISO/IEC TS 22440\, including changes since 2025\n• Insight into the future direction of TS 22440-1\n• An overview of relationships between concepts like SWTC\, AUL\, AISC\, and AIP\n• Scope overview of ISO/IEC TS 22440 with key implementation considerations \nBy the end of the webinar\, participants will gain a clear understanding of what ISO/IEC TS 22440 covers\, how it relates to existing safety standards\, key updates and insights into the future of TS 22440-1\, and its relevance to their current or future projects. \nA live Q&A will follow the presentation to allow for further discussion and questions. \nEnrollment\nPlease use the registration link to sign up. Once registered\, you will receive a calendar invitation containing a Microsoft Teams link to join the virtual session. \nSpeaker:\nJordan Punch\, Senior Functional Safety Engineer & Voting Member\, ISO SC42 JWG4 – AI Functional Safety\, Reynolds & Moore \nDisclaimer: This webinar is based on a draft of ISO/IEC TS 22440 and provides early insights to meet strong market demand. Content may change as the standard develops. The aim is to support innovation by offering one of the first detailed overviews globally.
