SUMMARY:How Early Safety Accelerates Product
DESCRIPTION:For robotics startups\, early safety engineering can be a direct accelerator from prototype to pilot\, market entry\, and the next funding round. When safety is built in early\, it helps shape cleaner architectures\, sharper requirements\, smarter prototypes\, and more focused validation. When it is deferred\, teams often lose time to redesign\, re-prototyping\, repeated testing\, delayed pilots\, and harder customer or investor questions. The trade-off is sharper for startups because capital is scarce\, engineering capacity is limited\, and investor expectations can pull teams from milestone to milestone before real-world hazards are fully understood. The earlier safety is incorporated\, the sooner a startup can clarify what the product must actually do\, which use cases are credible\, what evidence customers and investors will need\, and which design choices create avoidable downstream risk. Safety is not the opposite of speed. Late safety is.

SUMMARY:Climate Robotics Working Group: Kickoff Session
DESCRIPTION:Deploying robots to leave the planet better than we found it \nJoin us September 10 for the first meeting of the MassRobotics Climate Robotics Working Group! This first session is all about you. Come tell us what you need to succeed\, what’s getting in your way\, and where the community can help. \nThe Climate Robotics Working Group connects climate robotics founders\, university researchers\, industry leaders\, and investors around the challenges of building and commercializing hardware-intensive climate and energy solutions. Through monthly convenings and a speaker series\, members get direct access to the peer community\, technical expertise\, and industry connections\, all working together to ensure a brighter climate future. \nWe welcome participants across the full range of climate applications\, from offshore wind inspection and grid modernization to precision agriculture and building energy efficiency. If you’re in climate and robotics – we want you to join us! \nEarly-stage founders\, researchers\, corporate partners\, and investors are all encouraged to join. We welcome local folks to come in-person to MassRobotics\, but we will also have the ability for remote-participation via video link.

DESCRIPTION:Traditional functional safety standards were not built for the non-deterministic\, adaptive\, and data-driven nature of AI. ISO/IEC TS 22440 is the first international standard developed specifically for AI-enabled functional safety in industrial applications. \nReynolds & Moore is hosting a 2-day in-person training\, in partnership with RMAI Safety Certification\, at MassRobotics built around the latest draft of the technical specification. \nThe two days cover the AI safety lifecycle and where it fits within the traditional functional safety lifecycle\, the hazards and failure modes specific to AI systems\, the risk reduction methods that address them\, and application examples drawn from ISO/IEC TS 22440-3. \nSeats are limited to 20 participants\, first-come\, first-served!
